Development and psychometric testing of a breast cancer patient-profiling questionnaire

Abstract: IntroductionThe advent of “personalized medicine” has been driven by technological advances in genomics. Concentration at the subcellular level of a patient’s cancer cells has meant inevitably that the “person” has been overlooked. For this reason, we think there is an urgent need to develop a truly personalized approach focusing on each patient as an individual, assessing his/her unique mental dimensions and tailoring interventions to his/her individual needs and preferences. The aim of this study was to deve… Show more

“…Clinical and eHealth interventions to support patient empowerment may provide feedback to clinicians in order to tailor communication according to the patient's characteristics (Kondylakis et al, 2012, 2013, 2014; Wilkes et al, 2013; Gorini et al, 2015). Furthermore, initial information on cancer disease may be offered through eHealth platforms, helping the patient to formulate and note relevant questions prior to medical consultation (Kondylakis et al, 2014, 2015).…”

“…At an organisational level, burnout in ED is associated with high staff turnover rate, decreased work performance and professional commitment. At an individual level, it can negatively affect cognitive functioning such as difficulty in concentrating, decreased attention and poor decision‐making (Arora Asha, Chinnappa, & Diwan, 2013; Alessandra Gorini et al., ; Deligkaris, Panagopoulou, Montgomery, & Masoura, ; Howlett et al., ; Margallo‐Lana et al, ; Sandström, Rhodin, Lundberg, Olsson, & Nyberg, , Mazzocco & Cherubini, ). Decreased cognitive functioning can ultimately lead to serious clinical consequences as medical errors, low patient satisfaction and low treatment adherence to physician recommendations (Erickson & Grove, ; Deligkaris et al., ).…”

“…The functions and contents of eHealth (including required information, patient feedback, etc.) should be adapted to the patient's individual biopsychosocial characteristics to provide more useful, more accepted, and nonredundant information (Gorini et al 2015;). Furthermore, the personalization factors also refer to the possibility of the patient to express himself within the use of the technology.…”
