Development, characterization, and performance analysis of shape‐stabilized phase change material included‐geopolymer for passive thermal management of buildings

Abstract: The cooperation between phase change materials (PCMs) and geopolymer (GP) is energy-efficient way for improving the thermal performance of construction materials. This study discusses the effect of PCM combination with GP matrix on obtained concretes' mechanical and thermal properties. Attapulgite/lauric-capric acid eutectic mixture (ATP/LCEM) composite was fabricated as shape-stable composite phase change material (SSPCM) and then integrated with GP concrete (GPC) for improvement of the thermal mass of buildi… Show more

“…Remaining undegraded in nature for a long time since it has a long half-life, heavy metals that accumulate in bodies of organisms and can be toxic or carcinogenic even when at low concentrations are considered as one of the most dangerous environmental pollution factors [57][58][59][60]. For this reason, use of waste materials (especially heavy metals), many of which are important environmental pollutants, as a concrete additive is very important since it decreases the cost of concrete and it contributes to the reduction of environmental pollution by eliminating the environmental pollutants through recycling [61][62][63][64]. For this reason, many studies examining the use of various waste materials as concrete additives were carried out in recent years [65][66][67].…”

“…[4][5][6] Because of their high thermal energy storage capacity, negligible temperature variation in phase change procedures, low cost and wide range of sources, [7][8][9] PCMs have been employed in many important fields, such as solar thermal energy storage, 10 off-peak electricity storage 11 and thermal management for batteries 12 and buildings. 13 The forms of PCMs include solid-solid, solid-liquid, liquid-gas and solid-gas. 14,15 Solid-liquid PCMs (SLPCMs) are the most practical among all PCMs because their volume change during phase change processes is small, and their latent heat values are sufficiently high.…”
