Development of 8 MW Power Supply Based on Pulse Step Modulation Technique for Auxiliary Heating System on HL-2A

Abstract: The high voltage power supply (HVPS) based on pulse step modulation (PSM) has already been developed for the auxiliary heating system on HL-2A. This power supply consists of many switch power supplies, and its output voltage can be obtained by modulating their delay time and pulse widths. The PSM topology and control principle are presented in this paper. The simple algorithms for the control system are explained clearly. The switch power supply (SPS) module has been built and the test results show it can meet… Show more

“…Improved queue-up PSM control strategy. A PSM power supply generally uses phase-shifted pulse width modulation (PS-PWM) to control the output voltage of the power supply [29]. For PS-PWM, each SPS operates in PWM mode with the same switching frequency f s (1 kHz) and duty cycle; the switching period is delayed sequentially between different SPSs.…”

“…In order to make this HVPS meet technical requirements, especially the frequency and depth of modulation, using pulse step modulation (PSM) technology is the first choice. The total output voltage can be controlled by modifying the duty ratio of IGBTs through feed-forward control and feed-back control [6] . Fig.…”

“…To simplify the structure and improve the resolution of the EGPS, the pulse step module technology based EGPS (rated voltage and current: 16 kV/20 A) was designed with 27 switch power supply (SPS) modules [6][7][8][9]. Figure 1 shows the schematic diagram of the EGPS.…”
