Development of a New Combined Chemometrics Method, Applied in the Simultaneous Voltammetric Determination of Cinnamic Acid and 3, 4-Dihydroxy Benzoic Acid

Abstract: The voltammetric behavior of cinnamic acid (CA) and 3, 4-dihydroxy benzoic acid (BA) at an glassy carbon disc electrode has been investigated. The obtained cyclic voltammograms showed that their oxidation peaks were overlapped and it was difficult to determine them individually from a mixture without separation. To overcome this limitation, partial least squares (PLS) modeling, as a powerful multivariate statistical tool, was proposed for the resolution of the overlapped voltammetric signals from mixtures of C… Show more

“…OSC was performed as a preprocessing step prior to latent variable regression modeling to improve the calibration model [ 25 , 27 ]. OSC has been already applied in the preprocessing of near-infrared spectroscopy [ 25 , 26 ] and on electrochemical data [ 27 , 28 , 29 ]. In particular, Rouhollahi et al used OSC in linear sweep voltammetry data to improve predictions of the determination of ascorbic acid (in concentrations ranging from 3 to 350 ppm) and dopamine (ranging from 5 to 350 ppm) with a glassy carbon electrode [ 27 ], resulting in lower RMSEP values for the content prediction of both acids, compared to the performance of the model calculated with PLS without OSC.…”

“…In most cases, filtering with the OSC reduces the complexity of the model by the number of OSC components removed without noticeable enhancement in prediction performance [167,168]. In some cases the OSC method also removes a non-linear relationship between X and Y [169,170].…”

“…Genetic algorithms (GAs), which are inspired by the evolutionary principle of “survival of the fittest,” have been proposed as powerful search strategies for tackling complex optimization problems with high efficiencies and robustness [15, 16]. It is desirable that GAs should be suitable for automatically and rapidly optimizing the system parameters of SRA.…”
