Development of active power filter using rectifier boost technique

Abstract: <span>The development of active power filter (APF) using rectifier boost technique has been identified to compensate for the pulsating nature of the distorted supply current waveform of non-linear load. In this work, investigation is carried out on the operation of rectifier without any filters function. This is then extended to operate the rectifier converter with an active power filter function. APF function is implemented by enabling the closed-loop control using standard proportional integral control… Show more

“…The elevator system as Figure 1 comprises of mainly parts: active rectifier is able to turn energy back grid in order to recover regenerative braking energy and the voltage oriented control (VOC) is used to control the rectifier method similar to the field-oriented control method (FOC) of elevator driven motor [21]- [25]. In this section focusing on modelling and controlling the active rectifier-a crucial device in the elevator operation energy saving.…”

“…Among them, percentage of recovering regenerative braking energy is the highest. This solution group can be divided into two categories: the direct use of regenerative energy by matching time of accelerating and braking elevators by timetable optimization using the optimal control theory so that regenerative braking energy of elevators operating in power generation state transfers to elevators operating Int J Elec & Comp Eng ISSN: 2088-8708  Super-capacitor energy storage system to recuperate regenerative … (An Thi Hoai Thu Anh) 1359 in motoring state [10], [11], and the indirect use of regenerative energy by applying energy storage devices recovering braking energy when elevators operate in no-load lifting, and full-load lowering [12]- [17], or active rectifiers, reversible rectifiers in order to back the braking energy to the grid source [18]- [20]. This paper proposes the method for recovering regenerative braking energy by the super-capacitor energy storage system (SCESS) with the saving energy percentage indicated in the simulation results on MATLAB of the building ten floor being up to 30%.…”

“…However, PPFs have the main drawback that it is easy to resonate with the system impedance, compensation is not flexible. In order to improve the defects of PPF, the Active Power Filter (APF) [3][4][5][6] was born in the late 1970s. APF is often connected in parallel with nonlinear load to eliminate harmonic components of load and compensate reactive power.…”
