Development of an Electrochemical Biosensor for Rapid Detection of Foodborne Pathogenic Bacteria

Abstract: The development of quick, sensitive and targeted approaches to detect foodborne pathogenic bacteria is very critical to the implementation of efficient practice to guarantee food security. We reported the results of research relevant to fabrication of the graphene wrapped copper (II) assisted cysteine hierarchical structure (rGO-Cu(II)) synthesised under moderate, aqueous as well as eco-friendly conditions. A super sensitive unmarked electrochemical immunosensor for quantitative assay of Staphylococcus aureus … Show more

“…This sensitivity is sufficient to detect S.aureus traces in milk samples (as shown later on) and food. Our biosensors were more accurate and more sensitive than the devices available in the literature for detecting mastitis and S.aureus 6,14,15,[18][19][20][21][22]24,51 . As for the time required, our biosensors detected S.aureus in 10 min, which is shorter than with the devices in the literature 6,14,16,20,22,24 .…”

“…Therefore, there is no simple, low-cost procedure to detect S.aureus sufficiently quick to provide monitoring in food and milk production. Recent advances in biosensors may change this state of affairs as S.aureus can now be detected with optical 6,[14][15][16] , photonic 17 , electrochemical [18][19][20][21][22][23] and electrical methods 24 , where distinct types of materials can be combined in the sensing units 25 and promote synergy to reach high sensitivity, selectivity and rapid diagnosis.…”

“…Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic found in eardrops with ototoxicity properties, which causes hearing impairment or loss by inducing auditory hair cell apoptosis (90). Although Bleomycin has an essential advantage as an antitumor antibiotic in many anticancer drugs, over usage of it may have a toxic effect on the lung, which leads to pulmonary dysfunction and, subsequently, death (91).…”

“…The bio‐recognition element can thereby be an antibody, aptamer, RNA or polymer . Most recently, the integration of nanotubes and nanoparticles in EIS biosensors has been reported previously . As an example, a novel and multifunctional sensor for the simultaneous detection, elimination and inactivation of bacteria was reported by Yang et al .…”
