Development of Budesonide Loaded Biopolymer Based Dry Powder Inhaler: Optimization, In Vitro Deposition, and Cytotoxicity Study

Abstract: The progress in the development of DPI technology has boosted the use of sensitive drug molecules for lung diseases. However, delivery of these molecules from conventional DPI to the active site still poses a challenge with respect to deposition efficiency in the lung. At same time, serious systemic side effects of drugs have become a cause for concern. The developed budesonide loaded biopolymer based controlled release DPI had shown maximum in vitro lung deposition with least toxicity. The subject of present … Show more

“…Shape and surface morphology of PNPs were done using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) [22,24]. For SEM analysis, the D-CS-loaded ALG-CHI nanoparticles were mounted directly on the Quanta 200 ESEM (FEI, USA) SEM aluminum stub, using double-sided sticking tape and scanned in a low vacuum chamber with a focused electron beam at 20 kV and magnification of 12,000X.…”

“…This system is believed and accepted as a steady means to deliver the drugs to the target site with specificity [57]. Various delivery approaches involve microparticles, microspheres, solid lipid microparticles, polymeric microparticles [58, 99], surface coated microparticles [61], and so forth. In clinical practices, microparticles appreciably influence retention in the lungs and targeting properties of therapeutic agent, apart from the fact that active targeting microparticles also offer numerous advantages like masking, facilitation of handling, controlled dissolution profile, and protection [100].…”
