Development of Cholesterol-Lowering and Detox Formulations Using Bentonite and Herbal Ingredients

Abstract: Detoxification enzymes involved in human metabolism works to minimize the potential xenobiotic-induced damage constantly. Studies have revealed that toxin accumulation plays an important role in the etiology of cardiovascular disease. This study has been designed to provide evidence of medicinal use of bentonite, turmeric (Curcuma longa L.), grape (Vitis vinifera L.) seed, flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.), and psyllium (Plantago ovata L.) as detoxification and cholesterol-lowering agents using a hypercholeste… Show more

“… 15 Thus, this dose was used to further study psyllium’s protection against colitis. That psyllium is reported to bind and remove xenobiotics from the intestine 16 led us to consider the possibility that psyllium’s protection against DSS colitis might reflect its direct interaction with this chemical colitogen. However, the psyllium-enriched diet also provided strong protection in the T-cell mediated CD45RB high colitis model.…”

“…Hypercholesterolemia is a metabolic disorder with several related cardiovascular conditions such stroke, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, cerebral paralysis, cancer, and inflammation. [92] Recently, plant-based alternative therapies are considered safe, cost-effective and unlike their synthetic counterparts, they have less negative side effects. [93] In comparison to rats in the control group, rats treated with an ethyl acetate extract of M. micrantha stems exhibited remarkable reductions in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and malondialdehyde.…”
