Development of Mandarin monosyllabic lexical neighbourhood test (LNT)

Abstract: And the repeated measure analysis of variance revealed that the performance of children was not different among easy and hard lists (p _ 0.05). The results indicated that the mean scores for each list should be approximately equal, and their performances among lists were of high correlation. ConclusionThe performance of cochlear implanted children in Mandarin LNT was the same as the results of Kirk et al. (1995Kirk et al. ( , 1999. Their performances of spoken word recognition were influenced by lexical diffic… Show more

“…Although many studies have evaluated the effectiveness and benefits of cochlear implants for profoundly deaf children, the practical use of these devices is to communicate oral-aurally with other people in the community. In order to reflect the real scenario of daily communication, our study collected the verbal database of preschool children for tested materials by Yang et al [16]. Under such conditions, the value of cochlear implants can be evaluated.…”

“…In this article, we used M-LNT to investigate the open-set word recognition of cochlear implanted children after use of the device for 3 or more years. The M-LNT test is based on the vocabulary of normal hearing children aged 2-6 years [19], contains a minimum of words unfamiliar to young children, and is more appropriate for assessing the open-set perception of cochlear implanted children with limited vocabularies. There are four versions of the word list with inter-list equivalency [21].…”

“…The Mandarin Lexical Neighborhood Test (M-LNT) was used for evaluating the open-set word recognition of the participants [19]. The M-LNT consists of two word lists (easy and hard).…”

“…The speech tests all were designed for Mandarin-speaking children and included 1) a consonant identification test administered using the computer-assisted speech training system (19), 2) the Mandarin lexical neighborhood test (M-LNT) for evaluating open-set word recognition (20), and 3) the SPIN test for assessing word-in-sentence recognition (21). The M-LNT consists of 2 word lists (easy and hard).…”
