Development of menaquinone-7 enriched nutraceutical: inside into medium engineering and process modeling

Abstract: Menaquinone 7 (MK-7) is nutritionally important metabolite found by fermentation mainly using B. subtilis species. In this study, soybean medium was modified to improve the MK-7 production using Bacillus subtilis NCIM 2708 under solid state fermentation. The objective of this study was to produce large amount of MK-7 within a short period of time. Nine nutritional components viz. glycerol, mannitol, dextrose, sucrose, yeast extract, malt extract, K 2 HPO 4 , MgSO 4 .7H 2 O and CaCl 2 were investigated to obtai… Show more

“…Compared to chemical synthesis, biosynthetic production methods for natural vitamin K2 using bacterial fermentation have been the most studied and reported production systems for this vitamer [152][153][154]. This is mainly due to the advantage of selective production of the all-trans isomer by microorganisms, and the easy manipulation and culture conditions optimization of many bacterial strains.…”

“…Vitamin K 2 has positive effects on preventing osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease, as well as aiding in blood coagulation (Mahdinia et al, 2017). Studies have already been employed to produce vitamin K 2 enriched products by traditional fermentation food processes (Mahanama et al, 2011;Singh et al, 2015). The vitamin B 12 is an important cofactor for many enzymes (Cheng et al, 2016;Bridwell-Rabb and Drennan, 2017).…”

“…can use mono-, diand polysaccharides besides glycerol, and these saccharides can be used as carbon sources for producing MK-7. 12,23,26,28 Starch was reported to have been used for MK-7 production by B. subtilis in previous research, but not enough to have a measurable effect on production efficiency of strain. 22,27 In our previous research, an MK-7-producing strain B. amyloliquefaciens Y-2 with ⊍-amylase activity was isolated from Chinese fermented bean.…”
