Development of oxaliplatin encapsulated in magnetic nanocarriers of pectin as a potential targeted drug delivery for cancer therapy

Abstract: Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) and oxaliplatin (OHP) were in-situ encapsulated in pectin cross-linked with Ca(2+) forming 100-200 nm sized magnetically functionalized pectin nanocarriers, referred here as MP-OHP nanocarriers. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies revealed formation of spherical nanostructures. The magnetic measurements by vibration sample magnetometer (VSM) revealed high saturation magnetization (M s=45.65 emu/g). The sup… Show more

“…Beyond T B , the ZFC magnetization curve nearly overlapped with the FC curve, indicating superparamagnetic behavior. The T B was determined to be 71 K. Notably, the blocking temperature was corroborated by the values found in the literature for superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles 34,35 . Such superparamagnetic property has demonstrated to be critical to the successful application of magnetic nanospheres in areas such as T 2 -weighted magnetic resonance imaging, drug delivery and magneto-hyperthermia 36 .…”

“…The peaks around 6.39 keV are related to the binding energies of Fe in the biosynthesized Fe 3 O 4 -NPs colloids as reported by Dutta and Sahu (2012). Therefore, the EDX spectra for the Fe 3 O 4 -NPs confirmed the presence of Fe 3 O 4 -NPs in the two biosynthesized nano colloid.…”

“…Beyond T B , the ZFC magnetization curve nearly overlapped with the FC curve, indicating superparamagnetic behavior. The T B was determined to be 65 K. Notably, the blocking temperature value corroborated well with the reported literature of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles [36,37]. Such superparamagnetic property has been shown critical to the success application of magnetic nanocapsules in areas such as T 2 -weighted magnetic ressonance imaging, drug delivery and magneto-hyperthermia [38].…”
