Hotels -as temporary accommodation facilities, play a significant role in the development of the tourism industry, provide the possibility of a temporary stay for travellers, and also provide the possibility of carrying out other activities: business, treatment, sports activity, religious pilgrimage, etc.Along with the general trends of hotel construction, the development of the hotel industry in Ukraine has a number of features characteristic of the post-Soviet space. Historical hotels dating back to the 20s and 30s of the 20th century make up a small share of the total number of hotel establishments (approximately 15%); new hotels built during the years of Ukraine's independence make up about 50%, the rest -hotels built during the Soviet period ) (35%). Among the latter, the largest percentage is made up of hotels built according to typical projects in the 1950s and 1970s.In the 1920s -40s, Ukraine was characterized by a general refusal to build hotels, since hotels were considered "bourgeois relics", temporary accommodation was supposed to be provided by other means of accommodation, such as: «departmental dormitories», "houses of collective farm workers", medical "sanitaries", etc. An analysis of the general state of the hotel industry in Ukraine in the years between the first and second world wars indicates changes in the main contingent of residents (in contrast to the pre-revolutionary period, broad segments of the population are involved in travel, tourism ceases to be a purely elite phenomenon), the requirements for general social hygiene and sanitation are increasing , the importance of activities aimed at improving health and recreation is increasing. At the same time, there is chaos and mismanagement in the hotel industry, historical hotels are falling into disrepair, and at the state level, the direction to reduce the cost of construction is determined.
