Development of Simplified Wave-type Vane in BWR Steam Dryer and Assessment of Vane Droplet Removal Characteristics

Abstract: Air-water experiments were performed for the BvVR steam dryer in order to elucidate droplet removal characteristics of the vane. Based on the results, a simplified vane was developed and its droplet removal characteristics were confirmed by air-water experiments using a whole dryer model.Phase-Doppler anemometer was used to measure droplet diameter distributions. In the experiments of the current vane with four-wave stages and 120° bend angle, almost all of the droplets were found to be trapped in the first an… Show more

“…Air driven by the blower ran though the test section after passing though the entrance pipeline, and flowed out the outlet pipeline. It has been confirmed that the most of the droplets were separated in the first or second stage, when the wet steam passed through a corrugated-plate mist eliminator [8]. So the uniform and stable liquid film was generated in the first stage by slotting at the top of the plate.…”

“…For the convenience of calculation, the air velocity on the surface of the liquid film us is often used instead of ||ugVl and the definition equation can be simplified as Wef=ρlus2hσ. The liquid film stripping will take place when Wef just exceeds the critical value 27 . At this time, the airflow velocity on the surface of the liquid film is called the critical stripping velocity, and the larger the value is, the better the working stability of the inertial stage filter is.…”

“…Chen et al , studied the effect of the drainage hook form in detail, and the results showed that the separation effect was better when the plate hook spacing was gradually decreased from the inlet to the outlet, and decreasing the plate spacing led to the deterioration of the separation effect at the same drain hook spacing. Nakao et al , developed a simplified blade based on the force analysis of droplets in the flow field and also on the experimental finding that droplets were separated mainly in the first and second stages of the corrugated plate. The experimental study can accurately respond to the effect of parameters on performance, but the long period, the small number of test points, and the limitations of the test conditions do not allow visual analysis of the flow field distribution and droplet trajectory within the corrugated plate.…”
