“…These results indicate that it is possible for azo dyes to be further purified using the column chromatography method thus emerge the potential for using the textile dye extract as the sensitizers in DSSCs. The absorption spectra for azo dyes Yellow 5 (Y5), Blue 1 (B1), and Red 2 (R2) with concentration of 10 mg/L are shown in Figure 1, where the absorbance peaks are 426, 629, and 520 nm, respectively (García-González et al, 2020). These values show that these types of dye have the potential to be used as sensitizers in DSSCs; see also the research by Abdou et al (2013), which showed that coumarin dye with an absorbance peak of 417 nm can be used as a dye in a DSSC.…”

“…The present narrative review paper reveals the potency of textile-dye extract as a sensitizer in DSSCs. Most of the data used in this review paper are from the paper by Abdou et al (2013), with others from that by García-González et al (2020). The absorbance of textile dyes and the performance of a DSSC using a textile dye reveal the potency of textile-dye extract as a sensitizer in DSSCs.…”

“…The dye CI 19140 (Yellow No. 5, tetrazine), which belongs to the azo chromophore group [113,114], has been limited in the European Union in products for children, because it causes them to be hyperactive, and in hair dye products [21,116]. Tetrazine can also lead to dermatitis, anaphylaxis, and itching of the lips and tongue [117].…”

“…Spectrophotometric analysis (spectrophotometry) has various applications and is an effective technique for routine analysis since it is affordable, simple to run, and usable in all laboratories (Ebraheem et al, 2011;Danchana et al, 2019;Ayman et al, 2020). Spectrophotometry is based on the measurement of the absorption of light by the sample under investigation in the visible and near-ultraviolet range (García-González et al, 2020). These analyses rely on the measurement of the absorbance of solutions and are comparative practices based on calibration curves and are practical tools in chemical analysis (Zayed et al, 2017;Marczenko and Balcerzak, 2000).…”

“…The most used spectrophotometers are ultraviolet (UV), ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS), fluorescence, solid-phase, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) (Dumancas et al, 2017). Among them, UV-VIS spectrophotometer is one of the most common techniques used to determine the concentration of dyes (color) in solutions, as it can measure the intensity of light in the visible spectrum as well as the ultraviolet spectrum (Bunnag et al, 2020;García-González et al, 2020). Visible spectroscopy is a precise and accurate approach in measuring the colors or color mixtures that our eyes detect (Eyring, 2003).…”
