Development of the ATAQ-IPF: a tool to assess quality of life in IPF

Abstract: BackgroundThere is no disease-specific instrument to assess health-related quality of life (HRQL) in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).MethodsPatients' perspectives were collected to develop domains and items for an IPF-specific HRQL instrument. We used item variance and Rasch analysis to construct the ATAQ-IPF (A Tool to Assess Quality of life in IPF).ResultsThe ATAQ-IPF version 1 is composed of 74 items comprising 13 domains. All items fit the Rasch model. Domains and the total instrument pos… Show more

“…By including all domains of interest, using the ATAQ-IPF alleviates the need to administer additional questionnaires (eg, dyspnea or cough indexes). 26 Ongoing research aims to further build the validity of the ATAQ-IPF for use as an outcome measure in IPF trials.…”

“…26,27 The SGRQ-I is an IPF-specifi c variation of the original SGRQ, developed by applying Rasch analysis to SGRQ response data acquired in a multinational trial. 4,27 In Rasch analysis, response data are fi t to a mathematical model, the results of which place instrument items and respondents on the same scale.…”

“…Studies reporting HRQoL in people with IPF were eligible for inclusion if they used either generic preference-based measures or the SGRQ, which is a disease-specific instrument used in IPF. Other recently developed disease-specific instruments such as the St George's Respiratory Questionnaire IPF (SGRQ-I), 106 the 'A Tool to Assess QOL in IPF' (ATAQ-IPF) 107 and the King's Brief Interstitial Lung Disease (K-BILD) 108 measures were not eligible for inclusion as there are currently no methods to map results of these to utility measures required for economic evaluation. Data from any study designs were eligible for inclusion in the systematic review.…”
