This study aims to examine the determinants of destination loyalty toward World Heritage Sites (WHSs) along Silk Road tourism in Uzbekistan. It could enable the profiling of inbound tourists visiting WHSs and identification of the important determinants of destination loyalty. The results of this study could present valuable empirical evidence of Silk Road tourism among inbound travelers in Uzbekistan. An online survey was conducted to collect data from U.S. residents who experienced Silk Road tourism in Uzbekistan. A total of 419 questionnaires were used for this study. The present study explored the determinants of destination loyalty among inbound travelers who had visited WHSs along Silk Road destinations in Uzbekistan. Regarding the effect of length of stay on destination loyalty, travelers who visit for 7–13 days are inclined to show higher destination loyalty than the other groups. Free independent travelers to cultural and heritage sites showed a higher level of destination loyalty than other traveler types. The results indicated that travelers who reported visiting the Historic Centre of Bukhara in the Province of Bukhara and Western Tien-Shan in the Province of Tashkent showed higher destination loyalty. The proposed model consists of travel characteristics, WHS destinations, and demographic characteristics. This study provides several important theoretical and managerial implications. Moreover, this study can contribute to knowledge regarding WHSs and increase sustainable destination management to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Objective: The purpose of this study is to understand community participation in the preservation activities of historical heritage. This research was conducted on the community of Garut district in West Java, Indonesia, focusing on the handling of local cultural products from the past that have become tourist attractions. Theoretical Framework: In this research, the theory of participation from Sherry R Arnstein is used, which divides into eight sub-levels and three main levels: low or non-participation level, moderate or tokenism level, and high participation or citizen power level. Research Method: The method used in this study is a case study that examines cultural heritage in the form of objects, locations, manuscripts, and texts with historical significance. Our investigation includes the Holy Tomb of Godog, Holy Tomb of Sunan Cipancar, Sacred Tomb of Raden Papak, and Prehistoric Site of Pasir Lulumpang. Research Findings: Community involvement in the preservation of ancient manuscripts is only carried out by the owners of the manuscripts. The general public is unable to participate due to difficult access, as the manuscript owners are not open to the wider community. Additionally, there is a role for families in preserving ancestral heritage, which includes annual routine activities and forming associations with descendants of the family tomb. Conclusion: Community participation in the preservation activities of historical heritage seems to be low. This is evident from the many historical heritages still kept within the community and not yet reported to the government or other relevant parties for the preservation of these historical values.

Development of Cross-Border Tourism in Accordance with the Principles of Sustainable Development on the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan Border

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are two leading countries of Central Asia, mutually beneficially cooperating in the field of cross-border tourism. In this study, the tourism potential of the border areas was determined on the basis of tourism infrastructure and settlement density data. The geographic coverage of the study included nine regions located within the limits of the Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan border. We proposed the application of a rating assessment of the estimated tourism resource potential of Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan border regions, which provides the basis for comparative analysis of tourism development and promising opportunities for the large territory. The method allows one to achieve an understanding of the availability and volume of tourist and recreational resources in order to assess the tourism potential in the Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan border area in the framework of sustainable development. The study results generally allow the availability level of border region tourism resources to be determined and areas with more favorable and attractive conditions for cross-border tourism development to be identified.
