Developments in mycotoxin analysis: an update for 2014-2015

Abstract: This review summarises developments in the determination of mycotoxins over a period between mid-2015 and mid-2016. Analytical methods to determine aflatoxins, Alternaria toxins, ergot alkaloids, fumonisins, ochratoxins, patulin, trichothecenes and zearalenone are covered in individual sections. Advances in proper sampling strategies are discussed in a dedicated section, as are methods used to analyse botanicals and spices and newly developed liquid chromatography mass spectrometry based multi-mycotoxin method… Show more

“…Five AOH conjugates were isolated and identified by MS and NMR spectroscopy as -D-glucosides (attached in AOH 3-or 9-position). For AME, conjugation resulted in -D-glucoside (mainly attached in the AME 3-position) [52]. Knowledge of the toxicity and disposition of the oxidative AME and AOH metabolites is mandatory for a better understanding of the health risks posed by these Alternaria toxins, since toxicity properties may be enhanced or attenuated for their metabolites [53].…”

“…In order to prevent AF-associated health risks, maximum allowable AF limits for food and feedstuff are regulated [18,19]. The AF analysis systems accepted by the regulations include instrumental analysis with HPLC or LC–MS/MS; and immunological test methods including ELISA [20,21]. …”
