Diabetes Mellitus as Dysfunction of Interactions among all Organs: “Ominous Orchestra of Organs”

Abstract: Summary:Epidemiological evidence has established a link among hyperlipidemia, visceral obesity, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular diseases. We have recently proposed a hypothesis that the associations of those disorders are based on interactions of the three organs, i.e. the bone, adipose, and vascular tissues, possibly through multiple actions of several humoral factors and/or transcription factors. We call this unifi ed hypothesis 'osteo-lipo-vascular interactions', which may be explained by the common origin… Show more

“…The changes in the body function and structure might have been one of contributing factors along with others for the activity and participation problem areas. The DM is shown to affect almost all system of human body [13] and affection of nervous system secondary to DM will have additive effect on human body function.…”

“…Therefore, if fetal programming is in response to social hierarchies, we expect that it need not be restricted to diet and energy homeostasis, but it affects a large number of systems of the body along with brain and behavior. This indeed, is the case, and type 2 diabetes involves almost all systems of the body [ 10 , 45 ]. Social subordination is an important predisposing factor for type 2 diabetes [ 46 ], and the link between the two is elaborately explained by Belsare et al [ 40 ].…”

“…Thus, from the viewpoint of evolutionary endocrinology 3,31,32,39 the incretin actions of GLP-1 and GIP seem to be relatively recent, suggesting hitherto unknown functions, such as a mediator of the taste sensation signal to satiety or insulin secretion. Furthermore, from the viewpoint of systems biology, 3,31,32,39 GLP-1 and GIP, as well as their receptors, can be considered to form network system with other peptides in regulation of appetite 32,33 (Fig. 5).…”
