“…All the patients with the suspect of soft tissue calcification detected in the present sample were referred to specialized physicians to evaluate the need of request ultrasonography, magnetic resonance, or computed tomography that allows a correct diagnosis of the soft tissue calcifications. The suspicion of soft tissue calcification in the original or enhanced images may lead to false‐positive or false‐negative diagnoses (Schroder et al, ). The authors reaffirm the need for these specific examinations cited above to better evaluate and confirm the diagnostic hypothesis, which should not be done using panoramic radiography alone.…”

“…A high interindividual variability of the visual appearance of both normal and abnormal anatomy as well as the phenomena caused by artifacts and superimpositions makes it difficult to detect anomalies [28][29][30][31]. In addition, even panoramic radiographs of apparently "dentally healthy patients" can often show one or more dental or non-dental anomalies [32][33][34][35][36]. Therefore, diagnosing OPTs relies on hybrid search for multiple different targets requiring observers to know all characteristics of potential targets, and match those to actual visual characteristics of radiographs [37].…”
