DIAGNOSTIC AND DESCRIPTION OF ASIAN PANGASIID CATFISH GENUS Helicophagus FROM SOUTHEAST ASIA

Abstract: Pangasiid catfishes is an economic important catfish family for fishery. Nowadays, three species, Pangasius hypophtahlmus, P. boucorti, and P. djambal, are used in aquaculture. Among the genera in Pangasiidae, Helicophagus was less studied. Although this genus was less preferred than other popular species in Pangasiidae, it still has high commercial price. The present study was conducted to clarify the differences of the exist species in the genus Helicophagus based on biometric analyses. Twenty six specimens,… Show more

“…In concrete tanks, fish can grow and mature even though the rates were prolonged (P>0.05), compared to well-domesticated fish species such as tilapia (Gustiano & Arifin, 2010), Asian redtail catfish (Kusmini et al, 2019), and catfish (Gustiano et al, 2020a). The largest size of the fish obtained in the study reached 19.1 cm.…”

“…Morphometric truss analysis has been frequently utilized and successful in differentiating various populations within a species, such as in freshwater catfishes (Gustiano et al, 2021;Kusmini et al, 2019;Miyan et al, 2016) and the Indian Scad sea fish, Decapterus russelli (Sen et al, 2011). The Midas cichlid populations in our study can be divided into four groups based on their body shape or characteristics (Figure 4).…”

“…Water is one of the main issues in the aquaculture process. Various efforts and programs to improve technology-based aquacultures have been made such as the use of probiotics, bio-floc, and integrated aquaculture; with the Alumina-lumina System, Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS), Floating Net Cages (FNC), and Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) [1]. All technologies using pelleted feed are unavoidable, resulting in decreased pond water quality in catfish cultivation.…”
