This study was conducted to observe the growth and reproductive biology of wild sheatfish in controlled concrete tanks. The research was carried out from January to November 2020 at the Research Station for Freshwater Fisheries Germplasm, Cijeruk, Bogor. Sampled fish were captured from Cilala Lake in Bogor and Cipanas River in Sumedang, West Java. The collected fish were 14.6 ± 2.24 cm in length and 21.5 ± 9.19 g in weight. Growth and reproductive biology parameters were measured every 30 days. Cortisol, estradiol, vitellogenin, testosterone, glucose, and hemoglobin were also determined as the supporting parameters for gonadal maturity. Measured water quality parameters were temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, and alkalinity. The results showed that sheatfish grew with a specific growth rate of 0.4 ± 0.15%/day, FCR of 3.2 ± 0.26, and survival rate of 100%. Observation on the gonad maturity found that the fish studied were in the level-I and II. There are no significant differences regarding the supporting parameters (P>0.05) on the fish examined, despite the tendency of decreasing cortisol, and increasing testosterone. Based on the results, this study concludes that the observed fish can adapt, grow, and start to mature their gonads in their new environment, with temperature as one of the possible key factors influencing its gonad development.

Cichlid fishes exhibit rapid adaptive radiations with significant diversification rates in response to ecological variability, i.e., ecological opportunity or geographical isolation. The discovery of a Midas cichlid species in Lake Batur, Indonesia's largest volcanic lake, first reported in 2013, could represent such adaptations. Midas cichlids can now be found in a range of habitats in Lake Batur and dominate the lake's fish population by up to 60%. This study aimed to identify the interaction between habitat, water quality, and Midas cichlid in Lake Batur, facilitating morphometric variances in the fish populations. The fish were captured at five locations in Lake Batur using fishing rods, community nets with mesh sizes of 2–3 inches, experimental gillnets with mesh sizes of 1 inch, and fish scoops in floating net cages during August and November 2022. There were 46 fish samples caught from the five stations, all photographed using a digital camera and later measured using the ZEN 2012 software. The fish measurement employed a truss morphometric method using 21 distinct morphometric body features. Canonical analysis was used to determine the distribution of characteristics, while discriminant analysis was used to examine the closeness of association. The measured water quality parameters included pH, DO, temperature, conductivity, and TDS for in-situ and TSS, TP, TN, and chlorophyll A for ex-situ. The findings revealed morphometric changes among Midas cichlid species in Lake Batur caused by habitat and water quality differences. The distinction can be detected in the anterior and posterior bodies (C1, B1, C3, C6, C5, B3 and B4). Temperature and aquatic plants, Azolla pinnata, may detect the station and shape of fish in Lake Batur. Body shape cannot be identified by chlorophyll A, TN, DO, and TDS. Future genetic research could answer why fish groups with varied body types coexist in the same location.

The most important things needed in aquaculture are good quality and quantity of water resources. The residue from the use of pellets as additives and the results of the excretion of aquatic biota will produce liquid waste characteristics with high nutrient and organic matter content. One of the efforts to treat wastewater is using floating treatment wetlands (FTWs). This study aimed to analyze the changes in nutrients and organic matter concentrations and the removal efficiency using Vetiveria zizanioides and Heliconia psittacorum in a sewage treatment system using FTWs by grouping water quality parameters as observational variables whose linear correlations are in the line to become one main component using the PCA (Principal Component Analysis). The research was conducted on a laboratory scale using tarpaulin ponds with a batch system, the source of wastewater from catfish ponds with 12 treatment variations namely plant type, surface area, and pond depth, and observed for 30 days. Parameters monitored include total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), nitrate (NO3 −), nitrite (NO2 −), ammonia (NH4 +), orthophosphate (PO4 3-), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and in situ measurement of parameters such as dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, temperature, and conductivity. At the end of the experiment, it was seen that treatment pond 7 (Heliconia psittacorum, surface cover area 50%, depth 100 cm) effectively removed 75.35% of TN and 90.70% nitrate, treatment pond 1 (Vetiveria zizanioides, surface cover area of 100%, depth of 100 cm) effectively removed TP 92.55%, the treatment pond 5 (Heliconia psittacorum, the surface cover area of 100%, depth of 100 cm) effectively removed ammonia by 94.64% and nitrite by 97.93%. Almost all treatments tested can reduce COD concentrations, while the phosphate in the study showed a fluctuation until the end of the experimental period. Based on the PCA results on day 30, TN, TP, conductivity, phosphate, COD, nitrate, pH, and temperature can represent the characteristics of changes in the concentration of organic compounds and nutrients in aquaculture wastewater compared to other parameters.
