“…However, the pooled sensitivity for the diagnosis of intrathoracic TBLA was higher at 0.87. In another meta-analysis of studies involving 809 patients, the pooled diagnostic yield of EBUS-TBNA for TBLA was 80% [29]. EBUS-TBNA was also found to exhibit a diagnostic yield as high as 96.6% in cases of mediastinal TB, which presents a diagnostic challenge for clinicians [30].…”

“… 9 - 11 EBUS-TBNA has been shown to be an effective diagnostic tool in extrapulmonary tuberculosis, with a high sensitivity and a diagnostic yield of 80-94%, because it can reach mediastinal and hilar LNs that are commonly involved, so that the samples can be sent to cytological and microbiological analysis. 10 , 11 , 16 - 18 However, the positive culture rate for tuberculosis in this type of sample is reported to be 14-62%, which might be due to the scarcity of AFB in the LNs or lack of suitable cellular material in samples obtained from necrotic tissue. 9 , 16 , 18 , 19 In our study, EBUS-TBNA diagnosed tuberculosis in 4 cases, half of which were diagnosed by means of aspirate smears together with necrotizing granulomas or reactive LNs.…”

“…[ 17 ] A meta-analysis showed sensitivity of EBUS-TBNA for diagnosis of intrathoracic tuberculous lymphadenopathy was 87%. [ 18 ] Another study demonstrated diagnostic value of 95.4% for EBUS-TBNA in intrathoracic tuberculous lymphadenitis (TBLA). [ 19 ] When culture and histology were combined, EBUS-TBNA demonstrated 98% accuracy for the diagnosis of mediastinal TBLA.…”
