Diagnostics of the Socio-Economic Consequences of Economic Crime, Identifying the Symptoms of the Problem of Ensuring Economic Security

Abstract

The greatest influence on the level of economic security of the state is exerted by the consequences of economic crime, manifested in the socio-economic sphere. The socio-economic consequences of economic crime are extremely important from the point of view of their elimination and prevention in the future, they are direct indicators of the level of economic security of the state. Thus, economic crime leads to the growth of the shadow sector and, as a result, a lack of budget revenues, which is reflected in the country’s public debt; a high level of economic crime affects the state’s competitiveness, because it determines the state of the economy and affects the effectiveness of the country’s government; lowers the level of the business environment and leads to a low level of infrastructure. Economic consequences lead to social consequences that affect the gap between the incomes of the population and their quality of life. The conducted research made it possible to identify a set of socio-economic consequences of economic crime, including: the formation of a package of debt obligations to external institutions to cover the deficit of own budget funds, which is caused, among other things, by various types of economic crimes, which leads to the emergence of threats in the national system security in general and economic security in particular; a decrease in the level of the country’s competitiveness as an international agent as a result of unsuccessful economic policy and government activity, which favors the emergence and development of destructive processes in the country’s economic security system; the differentiation of society according to the level of income and access to various social benefits, which determines the quality of life of the population, and therefore forms the level of the country's development, which is the basis for the formation of national security in general and economic security in particular.
