“…(8) The low phase transition temperature observed in this study (1215 ± 2 K) was attributed to significant temperature gradient present in the Knudsen cell furnace. (9) The published phase diagram of Ga/S (13) does not show the transition that was observed in vaporization experiments. Jones and Edwards (10) sought to observe this transition by means of neutron diffraction under effusion conditions and showed that an order/disorder transition does occur at 1240 K.…”

“…1(a) shows the XRD patterns of LG samples isothermally-treated for 36, 48 and 96 h. All the samples indicate (LaO) 4 Ga 1.72 S 4.58 with a sheet structure consisting of (LaO), (GaS 3 ) and (Ga 0.72 S 1.58 ) layers [9]. The phases only observed in the samples treated for 48 and 96 h are a-(LaO)GaS 2 with a sheet structure consisting of (LaO) and (GaS 2 ) layers [10] and hexagonal a-Ga 2 S 3 [11] in addition to (LaO) 4 Ga 1.72 S 4.58 . The phases of a-(LaO)GaS 2 and a-Ga 2 S 3 appear in a temperature-composition phase diagram [3] for the 30 mol% La 2 O 3 -70 mol% Ga 2 S 3 composition.…”

“…The crystal structures of the gallium sulphides are described in detail in [6]. The compound GaS occurs in the 2H and in the 3R polytype with the lattice parameter c(3R) ≈ 1.5 c(2H).…”

“…The compound Ga 2 S 3 occurs in four modifications, of which the monoclinic α′-phase is the only one stable at room temperature. However, the hexagonal α-modification can be stabilised at room temperature by impurities [6]. The cation conductive βand γ-phase are stable above 920 °C and 858 °C, respectively [6].…”
