Diamond Nanowire Synthesis, Properties and Applications

Abstract: Due to the superior hardness and Young's modulus, biocompatibility, optical and fluorescence nanodiamond seems to be outstanding among carbon nanomaterials. In this footpath, the development of diamond nanowires (DNWs) is known to be a significantly innovative field due to their diverse applications such as sensors, semiconductors, and electrochemical utilities. Compared to carbon nanotubes, DNWs theoretically have energetic and mechanically viable structures. However, DNW synthesis in a reproducible way is st… Show more

“…Over the past decade, great progress has been made in the fabrication of UNCD nanowires, which has enabled significant developments in diamond based sensor technology, taken to a radically new level of performance, and brought in new applications. Since there are already a few reviews on other diamond related materials or self-assembled/assynthesized diamond NWs [14][15][16], this review focuses mainly on the investigations of various sensors based on UNCD NWs and other nanodevices fabricated using electron beam lithography and reactive ion etching techniques conducted by our group in recent years.…”

“…Diamond, as an unique material with sp 3 hybridization, consists of a tetrahedrally connected carbon atomic network and exists in diverse nanostructural forms, such as nanoparticles, graphitized hybrid nanoflakes, nanocrystals, nanowires, etc. [ 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 ]. Nanodiamonds with nitrogen vacancy center (NV − ) or surface modification can be employed in drug delivery, cell tracking/imaging, and sensing studies [ 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 ].…”
