Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane Specifically Depletes Dopaminergic Neurons in Primary Cell Culture

Abstract: Toxicity of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) to dopaminergic neurons in primary cell culture was investigated in the present study. Developing neurons from the substantia nigra of neonatal rats were cultured. After treatments with different concentrations of DDT (5– 12.5 µM), specific cell death of tyrosine-hydroxylase-immunoreactive dopaminergic neurons was observed in the culture by flow cytometric analysis. More than 60% of dopaminergic neurons were depleted after treatments with 10 and 12.5 µM of DDT.… Show more

“…Voltammetric study for cells viability HEK-293 cells, seeded at 10 5 cells/ml on a peptidecoated Au surface, were grown for 24 h. The fresh (Lang et al 2008) and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) (Leunga et al 2003) were applied to immobilized cells. Electrochemical measurements were performed after 24 h. Figure 5a shows CV signals for the cells which were treated with BPA: the reduction peak current (I pc ) decreased linearly (R 2 = 0.95) up to 7.5 lM BAP (Fig.…”
