Dielectric resonator antenna with top loaded parasitic strip elements for dual‐band operation

Abstract: In this article, a dual‐band hybrid cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) is designed, analyzed, and experimentally validated. Miniaturization and dual‐band frequency behavior are achieved by loading circular copper strips on top of the CDRA. Hence, the antenna resonates at 4.4 and 6.1 GHz covering −10 dB bandwidths of 600 MHz and 500 MHz, respectively. The proposed CDRA is excited using a rectangular slot for HEMY11 and HEMX11 modes. The proposed antenna demonstrates good gain (4.9 dBi at 4.4 GHz an… Show more

“…10 is the maximum DG with selection combining probability level 1% ρ is the correlation efficiency approximate expression It is observed from Figure 15 that the diversity gain in the entire operating band is above 9.90 dBi from 26.71 GHz to 28.91 GHz. Figure 16 shows the mean efficient gain and multiplexing efficiency in terms of frequency, clearly with peak mean effective gain (MEG) value of −4 dB and −1 dB multiplexing A dual-band cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna is proposed in [22], in which the miniaturization and dual-band frequency activity are accomplished by loading circular copper strips on top of the CDA with a maximum gain of 5.6 dBi. As a method of miniaturization, a square dielectric resonator is fitted with a magnetic LC resonator.…”

“…We know that there is always some coupling associated with the nearby Antennas. The coupling between the nearby antennas is modeled by LC series lumped elements [22]. The value of each component of the system is shown in Fig.…”

“…The simulated and measured results of Mode 1 are shown in Figures 3 and 4. In Mode 1, the CDRA is excited through a rectangular slot (acting as a horizontal magnetic dipole) [30]- [31] for generating the HEM x 11δ mode of the CDR at 3.5 GHz. The current distribution of the ground plane of the antenna shows a somehow uniform current distribution around the corners of the slot, but most of the current lies on the terminating side of the transmission line which enhances HEM x 11δ mode excitation, as shown in Figure 3(b).…”
