Quality and properties of microwave circuits depend on all the circuit components. One of these components is the substrate. The process of substrate material selection is a decision-making problem that involves multicriteria with objectives that are diverse and conflicting. The aim of this work was to select the most suitable substrate material type to be used in antennas in the microwave frequency range that gives best performance and reliability of the substrate. For this purpose, a model was built to ease the decision-making that includes hierarchical alternatives and criteria. The substrate material type options considered were limited to fiberglass-reinforced epoxy laminates (FR4 ε r = 4.8), aluminium (III) oxide (alumina ε r = 9.6), gallium arsenide III-V compound (GaAs ε r = 12.8) and PTFE composites reinforced with glass microfibers (Duroid ε r = 2.2-2.3). To assist in building the model and making decisions, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) was used. The decision-making process revealed that alumina substrate material type was the most suitable choice for the antennas in the microwave frequency range that yields best performance and reliability. In addition, both the size of the circuit and the loss tangent of the substrates were found to be the most contributing subfactors in the antenna circuit specifications criterion. Experimental assessments were conducted utilising The Expert Choice™ software. The judgments were tested and found to be precise, consistent and justifiable, and the marginal inconsistency values were found to be very narrow. A sensitivity analysis was also presented to demonstrate the confidence in the drawn conclusions.

A wideband perforated rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) reflectarray is presented. The array of RDRA are formed from one piece of material. Air-filled holes are drilled into the material around the RDRA. This technique of fabricating RDRA reflectarray using perforations eliminates the need to position and bond individual elements in the reflectarray and makes the fabrication of the RDRA reflectarray feasible. The ground plane below the reflectarray elements is folded to form a central rectangular concave dip so that an air-gap is formed between the RDRA elements and the ground plane in order to increase the bandwidth. Full-wave analysis using the finite integration technique is applied. Three cases are studied. In the first one, the horn antenna is placed at the focal point to illuminate the reflectarray and the main beam is in the broadside direction. In the second one, the horn antenna is placed at the focal point and the main beam is at ±30 degrees off broadside direction. In the third one, an offset feed RDRA reflectarray is considered. A variable length RDRA provides the required phase shift at each cell on the reflectarray surface. The normalized gain patterns, the frequency bandwidth, and the aperture efficiency for the above cases are calculated.

In this paper, a new application of aperture coupled dielectric resonator as a cell element in design of a dual linear polarized reflectarray at X-band is investigated. The reflectarray has two feed horn antennas, one for each linear polarization. The radiation patterns for each polarization are achieved by adjusting the phase of the reflected wave at each reflectarray element independently for each linear polarization with varying the strip line length. The design is carried out independently for each polarization at 10 GHz. A 441-element reflectarray is designed. The offset feed was used to minimize the feeding blockage and improve the total efficiency. The verification of reflection coefficient phase of cell element is satisfied by CST microwave studio and HFSS software. Maximum gain of 24.6 dB is obtained. The 1.5 dB gain bandwidth of the reflectarray is about 15 %. . Index Terms͗Dual-polarized reflectarray, aperture-coupled DRA
