Differences in Urodynamic Variables for Vesicoureteral Reflux Depending on the Neurogenic Bladder Type

Abstract: ObjectiveTo compare the urodynamic study variables at the onset of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) between the overactive and underactive bladders in patients with spinal cord injury who presented with VUR.MethodsA total of 28 (13 cases of detrusor overactivity and 15 detrusor underactivity) men were enrolled. We compared the urodynamic variables between the two groups; detrusor pressure and bladder compliance, the infused volume at the onset of VUR measured on a voiding cystourethrography and cystometric capacity… Show more

“…It is characterized by a combination of urinary frequency, urgency, and UI [1]. The urodynamic parameters of patients with NDO include a high transient bladder pressure, low bladder capacity, and increasing UI episodes [5]. Oral anticholinergic drug treatment, frequently combined with clean intermittent catheterization, is considered first-line therapy for UI in these patients [6].…”

“…Idiopathic detrusor overactivity (IDO) is another common type of OAB. OAB can lead to urinary incontinence and frequency and changes in urodynamic parameters including bladder capacity, compliance, and other important functions [ 5 , 6 ]. Current first-line treatment for OAB is antimuscarinic medicine [ 7 ].…”

“…NDO is indicated by a combination of urinary frequency, urgency, and urgency urinary incontinence (UI) [ 3 ]. The urodynamic parameters of patients with NDO include high transient bladder pressures, low bladder capacity, and increasing UI episodes [ 4 ]. NDO seriously affects the physical and mental conditions of patients.…”
