It has been reported that the main limiting factor in the protein synthesis at the end of lactation was the availability of this protein. , The enzymes of the pentose phosphate pathway (transketolase), the tricarboxylic acid cycle (cytosolic NADP-isocitrate, succinate dehydrogenase, and malate dehydrogenase), and de novo lipogenesis (fatty acid synthase and fatty acid-binding proteins) were also identified in the PM fractions. These proteins provide a substantial fraction of the reducing equivalents of NADPH and long-chain fatty acids taken up from blood, needed for lipid synthesis in the mammary gland. …”
