“…Studies have also shown that difficulties with emotion regulation are related to a mental disorder such as anxiety, depression, and personality disorders (Mennin & Farach, 2007). Cognitive emotion regulation has been considered as a significant factor to influence growth following stressful conditions such as chronic illnesses (Philips, Henry, Nouzova, Cooper, Radlak, & Summers, 2014). Studies investigating types of cognitive emotion regulation strategies that are associated with posttraumatic growth have yielded mixed results.…”

“…Affective dysregulation has been identified in MS as inappropriate or exaggerated affect (Harel et al, ), which can become apparent in behavioral symptoms such as exaggerated aggression or unusual feelings of euphoria (Rosti‐OtajĂ€rvi and HĂ€mĂ€lĂ€inen, ). Disrupted emotion regulation is not explained solely by disease severity or executive functioning of the patients (Harel et al, ; Phillips et al, ).…”

Disrupted emotion regulation is not explained solely by disease severity or executive functioning of the patients (Harel et al, ; Phillips et al, ). The relationship between a more frequent use of adaptive emotion regulation strategies such as cognitive reappraisal and improved quality of life in MS (Phillips et al, , 2014) emphasizes the need to investigate emotion regulation in MS further.…”
