Diffuse Skeletal Muscles Uptake of [18F] Fluorodeoxyglucose on Positron Emission Tomography in Primary Muscle Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma

Abstract: A 40-year-old man presented with weakness of neck extensor muscles. Cervical magnetic resonance imaging showed high-intensity areas in muscles of the left lateral cervical region on T2-weighted images. Fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography scan demonstrated striking fluorodeoxyglucose uptake by multiple skeletal muscles of the neck, chest, and abdominal region. Muscle biopsy demonstrated peripheral Tcell lymphoma, unspecified. The diagnosis was primary skeletal muscle peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Prim… Show more

“…Primary skeletal muscle peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PSM-PTCL, NOS), are a group of rare and aggressive lymphomas, with only eight previous reports on the condition published (2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9). Peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL, NOS) is the most common subtype of mature aggressive T-cell lymphoma, manifesting most often as a nodal disease (10).…”

“…2 On imaging, skeletal muscle lymphomas tend to involve multiple muscles with diffuse muscle enlargement, multicompartimental muscle involvement, homogeneous or inhomogeneous enhancement, and intense FDG uptake. [3][4][5][6][7][8][9] FAPI PET findings of skeletal muscle lymphoma are rarely reported. 10 FAPI PET is useful for detecting fibroblast activation protein expression in stromal cells of the lymphoma lesions.…”

“…Primary skeletal muscle non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is very rare, accounting for only 0.1% of all lymphomas 2. On imaging, skeletal muscle lymphomas tend to involve multiple muscles with diffuse muscle enlargement, multicompartimental muscle involvement, homogeneous or inhomogeneous enhancement, and intense FDG uptake [3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. FAPI PET findings of skeletal muscle lymphoma are rarely reported 10.…”
