Digital technologies in modeling and design of mining excavators

Abstract: Development and application of digital technologies at the stage of new model design is highly relevant. Manufacture of a testbed vehicle and its full-scale pilot testing is impossible for Russian manufacturers of mining excavators due to a high cost of a prototype and a lack of special testing grounds. In order to reduce the risks of machine builders as vehicle manufacturer and those of MPPs as users of the prototype excavator, it is necessary to introduce and develop the digital twin technology at the stage … Show more

“…In this context, innovation plays an irreplaceable role by providing suitable solutions to surpass these difficulties, ensuring continuity and sustainability in mining development [38], [40], [41]. In general, industry innovation is mostly driven by digital technologies, and mining engineering has been trying to brace the changes to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and meet the increasing social and environmental concerns among communities and authorities [2], [4], [42]. Nonetheless, it remains increasingly difficult for mining enterprises to decide which digital technologies are most relevant to their needs and individual mines, especially in such a technique explosion era [2].…”

“…The anomaly detection system then informs the users about the risk with warning messages and operational instructions through a VR and/ or AR interface. The term 'user' in the context of this study, can refer to a human, or a system similar to an integrated IDS mentioned in Shibanov et al (2021). The use of a cloud server platform gives the DT the ability to manage the enormous quantity of data flowing between the sensors, the simulation model, the 3D model of the plant, and the PLCs.…”

“…From the existing studies published in the minerals sector (LeBlanc Smith et al 1998; Xie et al 2019; Savolainen and Urbani 2021; Shibanov et al 2021; El Bazi et al 2022), variations were evident in areas of application, key features, and capabilities of these proclaimed Digital Twins. The degree of variations was further amplified when considering other industries, and it was rather impossible for one configuration to definitively represent the entirety of Digital Twin for all industries (Liu et al 2019; Lu et al 2020).…”

“…The cutters operating modes determine the intensity and efficiency of the entire technological chain of mining at a mining enterprise [4][5][6]. The mass of the cutter is no more than a thousandth of a mining machine [7][8][9], but at the same time it is its main element, since its hardness, wear resistance and failure-free operation determine the efficiency and reliability of any downhole mining machine [10][11][12].…”
