Digital Twin‐based Safety Evaluation of Prestressed Steel Structure

Abstract: The safety of prestressed steel structures in service has been studied widely. However, traditional safety assessment methods for prestressed steel structures involve few sample points, do not provide accurate predictions, and consume substantial human and material resources. The digital twin technology can be used to monitor the structural behavior, state, and activity of a steel structure throughout its life cycle, which is equivalent to performing a safety assessment of the structure. The purpose of this st… Show more

“…Yu et al [40] proposed a method for health monitoring based on the DTm, which constructed a non-parametric Bayesian network to represent the dynamic degradation process of health state and the propagation of cognitive uncertainty. The authors of [41,42] studied the application of DT technology in steel structure building safety assessment and construction tensioning, respectively, verifying the feasibility of DT application through cases. In the field of building venue security, DT has been applied to the dynamic evacuation of personnel in the fire scene of the Winter Olympic Venues, which makes up for the shortage of traditional fire safety evacuations [43,44].…”

“…For example, Lu et al [ 18 ] proposed a system framework of digital twin for architecture and urban design, and based on this framework, developed the digital twin model for operation and maintenance management of the West Cambridge site of the University of Cambridge, UK. Liu et al [ 19 , 20 ] proposed a DT-driven fire safety dynamic evacuation method in the aspect of risk management to realize the three-dimensional model of building safety evacuation, and real-time dynamic planning of an evacuation route according to fire development situation. In the aspect of risk assessment, the safety assessment method of prestressed steel structure in service was studied based on DT technology, and the safety assessment framework of prestressed steel structure based on DT technology was put forward.…”

“…At present, digital twins have been applied in the field of smart cities [42], building construction, maintenance, and strengthening operations [43,44]. Furthermore, there have been studies using the combination of the BIM model and the IoT to construct a digital twin model of the building [17,18].…”

“…A DTM supported by appropriate algorithms can make relevant conditions correspond to the performance in the real physical world, and then propose improvements to the systems in the real world. Such methods have been applied for the evaluation of the structural health of buildings [17] and the prediction of equipment failure [18].…”
