Dijet production in diffractive deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Abstract: The production of dijets in diffractive deep inelastic scattering has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 61 pb −1 . The dijet cross section has been measured for virtualities of the exchanged virtual photon, 5 < Q 2 < 100 GeV 2 , and γ * p centre-of-mass energies, 100 < W < 250 GeV. The jets, identified using the inclusive k T algorithm in the γ * p frame, were required to have a transverse energy E * T,jet > 4 GeV and the jet with the highest transverse energy was r… Show more

“…In the DIS regime, the theoretical expectation agrees with the measurement within uncertainties. This confirms the observation made in previous measurements [8][9][10][11]. In contrast, the integrated diffractive dijet cross section in photoproduction is overestimated by the NLO QCD theory by almost a factor of two, with considerable theory uncertainty.…”

“…Given the DPDFs, perturbative QCD calculations are expected to be applicable to other processes such as jet and heavy quark production in DDIS at HERA [6][7][8][9][10][11]. Indeed, next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD predictions using DPDFs describe these measurements well.…”

“…This difference between low and high-p t samples will be clearly visible in the final results. 12 The choice of a cut on pt1 was originally motivated by the observation in the context of HERA [96][97][98] that identical simultaneous cuts on pt1 and pt2 led to poor convergence of the perturbative series, for reasons discussed in [99,100]. Cutting on pt1 was intended as a way of avoiding this problem, but, as we see here, seems to introduce issues of its own.…”

“…Diffractive jet production in DIS has been studied by both the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations [21][22][23]. The kinematic range of the photon virtuality is 4 < Q 2 < 80 GeV 2 for the H1 and 5 < Q 2 < 100 GeV 2 for the ZEUS analyses.…”
