Dimensionality Variation in Dinuclear Cu(II) Complexes of a Heterotritopic Pyrazolate Ligand

Abstract: Abstract:Two new Cu(II) complexes of the ligand 3-carboxy-5-(2-pyridyl)-1H-pyrazole, H 2 L1, have been prepared and structurally characterized and found to be comprised of a similar [M 2 L 2 ] dimer motif. Subtle variation in the synthetic conditions allowed isolation of two metal complexes: [Cu 2 L1 2 (MeOH) 2 ], 1, a discrete dimer linked by hydrogen bonding interactions in the solid state, and poly-[Cu 2 L1 2 ], 2, a polymeric material where the dimer motif is linked by carboxylate bridges to give an extend… Show more

“…No notable hydrogen bonding was found and van der Waals force is the main intermolecular interaction. The two-dimensional chain formed by van der Waals forces between hydrogen atoms (H14 and H5A) and the noncoordinated carboxylate oxygen atoms (O(3)) of the Schiff bases [14] ligand. FTIR spectrum of [CuL(tmpda)] exhibited an intense band at 1627 cm −1 , corresponding to a coordinated imine group with Cu(II) ion.…”

“…8 Square-planar coordination environments can be achieved by using pyrazolate ligands in mono-and multinuclear noncyclic species of Pd(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Pt(II). [9][10][11] This geometry generally facilitates the molecular self-assembly in the mesophase as a result of the establishment of metallophilic and/or π⋯π intermolecular interactions. On the other hand, the use of pyrazolates as a bridge ligand between two or more metal centres often leads to non-planar coordination environments.…”
