Dimensions of coping: Hungarian adaptation of the Ways of Coping Questionnaire

Abstract: Jelen tanulmányunkban a Lazarus és Folkman által kifejlesztett Konfliktusmegoldó Kérdô-ív, illetve az ebbôl kidolgozott rövidített változat pszichometriai jellemzôit mutatjuk be. A Konliktusmegoldó Kérdôív 66 tételes teljes változatát 582 személlyel töltettük ki, a kitöltôk életkora 18 és 69 év közé esett. A kérdôív tételein végzett feltáró faktorelemzés alapján 7 faktoros struktúra bontakozott ki: Pozitív átértékelés, Menekülés-elkerülés, Szociális tá-maszkeresés, Távolítás-elfogadás, Konfrontálódás, Tervszer… Show more

“…In our survey we used the shortened version of 16 items, which was elaborated, validated and adapted for Hungarian. Furthermore, it was used many a times in the Hungarostudy survey, representing the Hungarian population according to sex, age and sub-regions [17][18]. Of these eight items cover emotion-centred coping strategies (e.g.…”

“…For the original WCQ scale, Cronbach's alpha values for the factors ranged from 0.74 to 0.81 [31]. For the Hungarian students, we used the Hungarian 16-item version of WCQ, which was validated in 2008 [32]. In the Hungarian WCQ, four dimensions were identi ed, which were cognitive restructuring/adaptation (every cloud has a silver lining), stress reduction (eating, drinking, smoking), problem analysis (I tried to analyze the problem), and helplessness/passive coping (I prayed; used drugs) [32].…”

“…This is perhaps not surprising as there remains uncertainty concerning the structure of these scales even in situational format (e.g., Lundqvist & Ahlström, 2006;Senol-Durak, Durak, & Elagöz, 2011). The replication of the original eight factors has been noted as challenging (Cook & Heppner, 1997;Edwards & O'Neill, 1998;Rózsa et al, 2008), with the suggestion that researchers conduct independent factor analyses to construct their own scales (Parker, Endler, & Bagby, 1993).…”
