The method of gas chromatographic analysis of chlordane by head gas that is presented in this article has several good features. A direct sampling of the pesticide is possible, eliminating any intermediate extraction steps which could alter its composition. By using 800 ml of water, a large volume of head gas is obtained so that repeated sampling is possible. By using a chemically inert silicone sealing cap, repeated sampling does not puncture the cap, so that there is no leakage out of the pesticide, or any leakage of possible contaminants. Since the bottle is not opened when the pesticide is added, there is no possibility of the blank background changing when the chlordane sample is analyzed. It is a rapid method, requiring less than an hour for the complete procedure.
