Directing Assembly and Disassembly of 2D MoS2 Nanosheets with DNA for Drug Delivery

Abstract: Layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembled stacked Testudo-like MoS superstructures carrying cancer drugs are formed from nanosheets controllably assembled with sequence-based DNA oligonucleotides. These superstructures can disassemble autonomously in response to cancer cells' heightened ATP metabolism. First, we functionalize MoS nanosheets (MoS-NS) nanostructures with DNA oligonucleotides having thiol-terminated groups (DNA/MoS-NS) via strong binding to sulfur atom defect vacancies on MoS surfaces. The driving forc… Show more

“…Due to their high surface area and chemical reactivity, these materials can be functionalized and used as drug delivery carriers. 22,23 The high surface to volume ratio also makes TMDCs highly sensitive to adsorbed molecules, enabling applications in sensing. 2430 The intrinsic photoluminescence of some TMDCs further allows their use as biomedical imaging agents.…”

“…Layer‐by‐layer films prepared from DNA oligonucleotide‐modified MoS 2 nanosheets through the formation of superstructures guided by a linker aptamer that can be used for used for drug encapsulation and ATP‐driven drug release . Drugs incorporated within the interlayer spaces of MoS 2 nanosheets can be protected from external disturbances.…”
