“…To determine the source terranes for East and West Sumatra, we compiled detrital zircon data from the Lhasa (Gehrels et al, ; Leier et al, ; G. W. Li et al, ; G. W Li, Sandiford, et al, ; Pullen et al, ; Zhu et al, ), South Qiangtang (C. Y. Dong et al, ; Gehrels et al, ; Pullen et al, , ; Zhu et al, ), Tethyan and High Himalayas (Ding et al, ; Gehrels et al, , ; McQuarrie et al, ; Myrow et al, , ; Zhu et al, ), West Burma (Sevastjanova et al, ; Tang, ), northern Sibumasu (Burrett et al, ; Cai et al, ; G. W. Li et al, ; D. P. Li, Luo, et al, ), and Western Australia (Cawood & Nemchin, ; Gardner et al, ; Sircombe & Freeman, ; Veevers et al, ; and Geoscience Australia data at http://www.ga.gov.au/geochron-sapub-web/geochronology/shrimp/search.htm). Detrital zircon data from Precambrian to early Paleozoic strata in the above regions, if available, were primarily used, supplemented by those from younger strata showing comparable age patterns.…”

“…After the continental breakup of India and Antarctica around 132–130 Ma (Gaina et al, ; Müller et al, ; Powell et al, ), the Indian Ocean started to open and dispersed continental material, in particular several microcontinents, throughout the growing ocean basin. Evidence for continental material has been found at the Naturaliste Plateau, the Wallaby Plateau, the Zenith Plateau, the Batavia Knoll and the Gulden Draak Knoll (all of which are submarine plateaus currently positioned off the west coast of Australia) (Direen et al, ; Gardner et al, ; Whittaker et al, ), at several parts of the Southern Kerguelen Plateau (Coffin et al, ) and at Elan Bank (located northwest of the Southern Kerguelen Plateau) (Borissova et al, ; Frey et al, ; Gaina et al, ; Ingle et al, ; Nicolaysen et al, ; Weis et al, ). Subsequently, large parts of these continental fragments were overlain by plume material.…”

“…Grid references refer to the present-day geographical location of Antarctica. Different interpretations of the locations of major crustal boundaries are shown as solid and dashed bold lines and labelled (from Aitken et al 2014, Gardner et al 2015, Maritati et al 2016, Daczko et al 2018). Thin black lines represent other geophysical lineaments from Maritati et al (2016).…”
