Disparities in HIV clinic care across Europe: findings from the EuroSIDA clinic survey

Abstract: BackgroundAlthough advances in HIV medicine have yielded increasingly better treatment outcomes in recent years, HIV-positive people with access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) still face complex health challenges. “…8,9 Only Norway and the UK had significant increases in new reported diagnoses in older people coupled with significant decreases in younger people. Although the observed differences in notification rates among older adults across the EU/EEA are probably the result of several factors that differ across the region, including risk-behaviour patterns, health-seeking behaviours, testing programmes and patterns, and levels of stigma, 5,9,16 our findings suggest a new direction or new directions in which the epidemic is evolving.…”

Access to some aspects of HIV care such as ARV resistance testing is poor or uneven [61] and young people and their families may face additional barriers including illegal charging of users fees for non-HIV-specific services [65][66][67][68] and poor access to sexual and mental health services [69,70].…”

“…Özellikle Türkiye'nin de içinde bulunduğu ve komşuluk yaptığı Orta ve Doğu Avrupa bölgesinde ART kapsayıcılığının ve viral baskılanma oranlarının beklenenin altında olması, bölgedeki ülkelerin önemli bir kısmının, özellikle de düşük gelirli olanların halen dış fonlara bağımlı olması (19), Doğu Avrupa ülkelerinde opioid yerine koyma ve şırınga değişim programlarının bulunmaması (44) ve HIV edinme riski yüksek toplumlar için hedefli test stratejilerinin bulunmaması, bu hedefe ulaşmaktan neden uzak olduğumuzu açıklayabilir.…”
