Dispersed ZrO2 nanoparticles in MCM‐48 with high adsorption activity

Abstract: A new two‐step synthesis of ZrO2‐MCM nanocomposites using the gel combustion technique was accomplished; the resulting material had a high‐surface area and showed very high adsorption activity. The deposition of 2–5 nm ZrO2 particles over MCM was achieved using gel combustion technique with glycine as a fuel, and the formation of nanocomposites was confirmed using transmission electron microscopy. The composites were also characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR and N2 adsorption‐desorption analysis. The nanocomposites… Show more

“…The 3-D pore geometry reduces pore clogging that frequently occurs in uni-dimensional mesoporous materials, such as MCM-41 and SBA-15. However, the use of MCM-48 materials as adsorbents for dye molecules is limited mainly due to the inherent challenges in the synthesis of MCM-48 [23,33]. Most importantly, literature reports regarding degradation of dyes over MCM-41 and/or MCM-48 materials are limited and there are conspicuous gaps in knowledge [34][35][36][37][38].…”

“…These mesoporous materials are regarded as excellent catalyst supports for active metallic particles due to their high surface area, uniform pore size and pore volume, and thermal stability. [8][9][10] Santa Barbara amorphous (SBA)-15 itself does not show substantial catalytic activity, unless appropriate active metal species are impregnated inside SBA-15.…”
