Disposable screen printed sensor for the electrochemical detection of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in undiluted saliva

Abstract: BackgroundCannabis has an adverse effect on the ability to drive safely, therefore a rapid disposable test for Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis, is highly desirable for roadside testing.ResultsA screen printed carbon electrode is used for the N-(4-amino-3-methoxyphenyl)-methanesulfonamide mediated detection of Δ9-THC in saliva. Mediator placed in an overlayer was galvanostatically oxidized and reacted with Δ9-THC to give an electrochemically active adduct which could be … Show more

“…In the forensic area, voltammetry is widely used to analyze seized drugs, biological matrixes, contaminated water, explosives, gunshot residues (GSR), and toxins [25][26][27][28][29][30] We propose a simple and cheap methodology to quantify cocaine in acidic solution and in organic solution by using carbon paste electrode. After each voltammetric analysis, the working and the auxiliary electrodes were polished with paper.…”

“…Our earlier work also disclosed phenoxazines as antibiotic leading agents because of their potent inhibition of penicillin binding proteins (PBP) [10]. The inability of anticancer chemotherapeutic agents to selectively discriminate normal cell from cancerous cells as well as serious side effects of administering anticancer drugs constitutes the greatest challenge in cancer treatments [11]. Another major issue in a cancer therapy is the multidrug resistance effect of cancerous cells to numerous chemotherapeutic drugs which often result in treatment failure [12].…”

“…Owing to the large differences in polarities of constituents in HMs and limitation of analytical techniques, only constituents with similar polarities can be determined simultaneously. For instance, amino acids are generally determined using liquid chromatography (LC) or gas chromatography after derivatization 8 , 9 , carbohydrates are always separated using hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) and detected by evaporative light scattering detector or mass spectrometry (MS) 10 , and a variety of lipophilic ingredients are usually determined using high performance liquid chromatography and LC-MS 11 , 12 . As a consequence, multiple analytical methods have to be developed and implemented routinely.…”
