Dissection of Trichoderma longibrachiatum-induced defense in onion (Allium cepa L.) against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepa by target metabolite profiling

Abstract: Trichoderma spp. are versatile opportunistic plant symbionts that can cause substantial changes in the metabolism of host plants, thereby increasing plant growth and activating plant defense to various diseases. Target metabolite profiling approach was selected to demonstrate that Trichoderma longibrachiatum isolated from desert soil can confer beneficial agronomic traits to onion and induce defense mechanism against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepa (FOC), through triggering a number of primary and secondary met… Show more

“…Likewise, T . longibrachiatum treatment of bulb onions improved growth parameters such as seedling height and FW (Abdelrahman et al ., ). The enhanced seed germination rates and plant growth parameters observed in this study might be caused by successful colonization by TriV_JSB100, leading to an improvement in nutrient uptake and induction of indole acetic acid (Abdelrahman et al ., ; Jogaiah et al ., ; Shoresh et al ., ; Yadav et al ., ).…”

“…). A similar correlation was observed in our previous research (Abdelrahman et al ., ), where the treatment of onion ( Allium cepa ) seed with a conidial suspension of T . longibrachiatum isolates produced remarkable changes in terms of early seed germination and improved seedling vigour when compared with the untreated control.…”

“…has shown numerous positive results, but for hydroponics, the application method has not been studied enough, yet. New studies proved that the biological control can stimulate the secondary metabolism resulting in higher concentrations of bioactive substances (Abdelrahman et al, 2016).…”
