Distributed Robust Chance-Constrained Empty Container repositioning Optimization of the China Railway Express

Abstract: In order to reduce the total cost of empty container repositioning, a multi-period empty container repositioning optimization model of the China Railway Express was established by using distributed robust chance-constrained programming based on partial information such as mean and variance of demand. This established model considered sea-land intermodal transportation, uncertain empty container demand and foldable containers. To simplify the model, the distributed robust chance constraints were transformed int… Show more

“…The limit of this approach, which operates by means of discretization, is a considerable amount of calculations; the greater they are, the greater the discretization is. The sensitivity analysis aims to identify the contributions given by various parameters that characterize the structure in terms of strength and weight, providing design indications capable to obtain less generous, but more accurate sizing, which is better suited to stress problems detected by the tank container examined [37][38][39].…”

“…Zhang et al [8] studied the empty container repositioning problem of China EU sea land multimodal transport in the context of the "the Belt and Road", modeled the problem, and designed an artificial bee colony algorithm to solve the model. Xing et al [9] analyzed the uncertain demand for empty containers and partial information such as the mean and variance of demand for foldable containers in the context of land-sea intermodal transportation. Using the distributed robust chance constrained programming method, they conducted some research on the optimization of multi-time empty container repositioning problems in China's railway express transportation.…”
