Distribution and Mineralogical Characteristic of Raya Volcanics, West Kalimantan

Abstract: There are several volcanic rocks in a radius of 150 km from where the Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) site project in West Kalimantan. The Mesozoic volcanic rocks have not been characterized for volcanic hazard evaluation purposes due to their old age. However, the distribution of Raya Volcanic Rocks that covers the site area and the wider area up to 150 kilometers from the site makes this rock group quite important to be characterized to find out how its activities in the past. This paper's objective is to comprehe… Show more

“…Based on the result of petrographic analysis and mineralogical analysis, monazite occurrences in several granite samples indicate that those granites can be categorized as Type-S granite. It is confirmed w ith previous studies that Bebuluh Granite, Toboali Granite, and Menumbing Granite are Type-S granite [55,56]. Type-S granite has significant potential for radioactive mineral occurrences that may contain high concentration of uranium (0.13 wt%) and thorium (>1.0 wt%) [57].…”

“…The scanning results have obtained the composition spectrum of the elements combination in each pixel that shows the characteristics of the composition of a mineral. These spectra were compared with the standard spectra of minerals in the AMICS database [7,38,39]. From several samples that have been scanned using a micro XRF M4 Tornado plus tool and analyzed using AMICS, a list of minerals is obtained such as shown in Table 1.…”
