Distribution of the Lathyrus L. 1753 (Fabales, Fabaceae) species in the Vojvodina Province

Abstract: Most of the Lathyrus species of the Vojvodina Province arc cultivated for fodder. They are protein-containing herbs which easily recover after grazing. Some perennial species survive in grassland communities for ten years or more. Certain species are important melliferous plants. In the Vojvodina Province, they inhabit different habitats like forests and grasslands, dry and wet sites, thus showing a wide distribution range. Besides their floristic and vegetation aspects, their role as green and dry fodder crop… Show more

“…The population reached its highest abundance in relatively open shrub vegetation and is documented by the following phytosociological relevé: The stand represents a species-rich ecotone shrub vegetation (62 taxa in E1 recorded) of the Berberidion alliance (Jarolímek et al 2008). As emphasised by several authors, the most typical habitat Lathyrus aphaca is ruderal and segetal vegetation (Gams 1975;Chrtková & Bělohlávková 1995;Boža et al 2003;Otýpková 2003;Nobis et al 2011). Chrtková et al (1977) found that almost 80% of the localities of L. aphaca in Slovakia represent the above-mentioned anthropogenically influenced habitat types, while 11% of occurences represented shrub margins (up to 35% in the Czech Republic).…”

“…Many of its species are underused but have a high production potential as crops. Dr. Mikić actively contributed to technical dissemination, such as describing new intercropping schemes or production components, and their characterization and reintroduction into production especially on the Balkan region (Boža et al, 2003; Ćupina et al, 2009; Hammer et al, 2019; Mihailović et al, 2013; Mikić, Mihailović, Ćupina, Đurić, et al, 2011). Moreover, Dr. Mikić was inspirational for researchers working worldwide with underused crop species, and established collaborations with many of them, perseveringly seeking for international funds never easy to find in these kind of crops.…”

“…Plants on which caterpillars feed are present there. Of the 16 species of the genus Lathyrus L., 1753 in the flora of Vojvodina, 15 are present in the flora of Fruška Gora (Boza et al, 2003). The species Lathyrus niger (L.) Bernth.1800 is present at 14 localities, including localities on Fruška Gora.…”
