Disturbance in haematological parameters induced by exposure to electromagnetic fields

Abstract: Background: The use of mobile phones, wireless, and electrical devices has gradually increased throughout the last century, and scientists have suggested that electromagnetic fields (EMFs) generated by such devices may have harmful effects on living creatures. Many studies revealed that the EMFs might produce a variety of adverse effects on human health as headaches, chronic fatigue, heart problems, stress, nausea, chest pain, and also some bad effects on central nervous, endocrine and immune systems. Exposure… Show more

“…The application of an electrical charge causes changes in the membrane potential, the distribution of ions, and can affect the rate of enzymatic reactions [20]. Evidence suggests that iron metabolism depends on the influence of an electromagnetic field [21]. Changes in iron metabolism may be caused by injury or oxidative stress and are determinants of neurodegenerative disorders [22].…”

“…New technologies that use the spectrum of high-frequency emissions are incorporated into many aspects of telecommunications. Consequently, there is a lot of interest in the possible effects of the radiation emitted from telecom machines such as hand phones, base stations, and transmitters (Pourlis, 2009, Azab et al, 2018. Cell phone technology is an integral part of everyday life and its use is not only restricted to voice conversations but also conveying news, high-resolution pictures, and the internet.…”

“…Cell phones have become a vital part of everyday life. It creates an EMF around them when in use, thus increasing the electromagnetic contamination (Azab et al, 2018). Therefore, electromagnetic fields are the result of the combination of both electric and magnetic fields which move together at the speed of light.…”

“…Moreover, EMR could cause oxidative stress injury in the brain [ 6 , 7 ] and heart tissues [ 8 , 9 , 10 ] in rat models. In other studies, functional alterations in the central nervous system (CNS), cardiovascular system (CVS), and hemopoietic system were also reported after long-term exposure to EMR from MPs in animals [ 6 , 8 , 11 ]. Nevertheless, the pathophysiological mechanisms of the EMR from MPs have not been fully clarified.…”
