Diversity and phylogenetic relationships among the North American Tacaribe serocomplex viruses (Family Arenaviridae)

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to extend our knowledge of the genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships among the North American Tacaribe serocomplex viruses. Analyses of glycoprotein precursor gene sequence data separated the North American arenaviruses into 7 major phylogenetic groups. The results of analyses of Z gene and nucleocapsid protein gene sequence data were not remarkably different from the glycoprotein precursor gene tree. In contrast, the tree generated from RNA-dependent RNA polymerase gen… Show more

“…Cells overexpressing the indicated TfR1 were then infected with murine leukemia viruses pseudotyped with GPC proteins of clade A/B arenaviruses; for this study, we selected six viruses that are widely distributed in a phylogenetic tree based only on GPC sequences of clade A/B viruses ( Fig. 1B and Table 1) (14). They are WWAV and BBTV isolated from white-throated wood rats (Neotoma albigula) in New Mexico in 1993 and in Arizona, respectively (15,20); AV96010151 and SKTV isolated from Mexican wood rats (Neotoma mexicana) in New Mexico and in Arizona, respectively (22,37); BCNV isolated from California mice (Peromyscus californi- (18,19).…”

Woodrats and other members of the Cricetidae: Neotominae (Musser and Carleton 2005) are natural hosts of Tacaribe serocomplex viruses in the western United States (Cajimat et al 2011).…”
