“…This is the first record of this species from Japan. Baker (1980Baker ( , 1984 noted that this species has a relatively simple genital system that varies in detail in material from different areas, i.e. in setal shape and number, form and length of penis sheath, and relative lengths of vas deferens to atrium.…”

“…In contrast to the few studies of brackish environments, many studies have been conducted on the composition and distribution of the oligochaete fauna of intertidal and subtidal waters of the marine coasts all over the world. Baker (1984) compared the Tubificidae and Enchytraeidae fauna of intertidal shallow water of Pacific and Atlantic coasts of the United States and showed the west coast had a higher species diversity than the east one. In a recent studies (Ers6us, 1990;Diaz & Ers6us, 1994) the total number of species of marine Tubificidae in the barrier reef ecosystems of Central America have been shown to exceed that of the freshwater environments.…”

“…In the north, the oligochaetes of Cape Cod Bay and Georges Bank have been extensively studied (Cook, 1969(Cook, , 1971Lasserre, 1971;Coates & Erseus, 1985;Davis, 1985), and in the south numerous papers by Erseus have treated the Tubificidae of, in particular, North Carolina, Florida and Bermuda. Baker (1984) compiled and evaluated the zoogeographic affinities of known Tubificidae, including littoral, sublittoral, estuarine and marine forms. He recognized distinct northern and southern tubificid faunas along the North American east coast, with a faunal break around Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.…”

“…He recognized distinct northern and southern tubificid faunas along the North American east coast, with a faunal break around Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Only 17 of the 28 Tubificidae collected in this study were treated by Baker (1984). Sixteen of the 38 species collected have been found in Massachusetts as well as in the study area, but yet not from south of Cape Hatteras.…”
