DNA, protein binding, cytotoxicity, cellular uptake and antibacterial activities of new palladium(ii) complexes of thiosemicarbazone ligands: effects of substitution on biological activity

Abstract: The coordination propensities of 4(N,N')-diethylaminosalicylaldehyde-4(N)-substituted thiosemicarbazones (H(2)L(1-4)) were investigated by reacting with an equimolar amount of [PdCl(2)(PPh(3))(2)]. The new complexes were characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. The structure determination of the complexes [Pd(DeaSal-tsc)(PPh(3))] (1), [Pd(DeaSal-mtsc)(PPh(3))] (2) and [Pd(DeaSal-etsc)(PPh(3))] (3) by X-ray crystallography showed that ligands are coordinated in a dibasic tridentate ONS donor fashion f… Show more

“…In the spectra of (H 2 L) 1-4 , a sharp singlet corresponding to the phenolic -OH group has appeared at δ 11.34-11.76 ppm. However, this singlet completely disappeared in all the complexes confirmed the involvement of phenolic oxygen in coordination [41,43,46]. The spectra of (H 2 L) [1][2][3][4] showed a singlet at δ 9.13-10.0 ppm corresponding to (N(2)H-C=S) group [41,43], but in the complexes 1-4 there was no resonance attributable to N(2)H, indicating the coordination of thiolate sulphur atom of the ligand in the anionic form after deprotonation at N(2) [41,46].…”

“…De hecho, las tiosemicarbazonas y sus complejos metálicos son de gran interés por su amplio rango de efectos biológicos (13,14), ya que tanto los ligandos derivados de ellas como los complejos metálicos de transición tienen otras propiedades farmacológicas antivirales, antibacterianas, antifún-gicas, antiparasitarias y antitumorales (3,10,(15)(16)(17)(18).…”
